Our tour includes tastings from 6 local eateries and collectively provides enough food for a satisfying lunch for most people. We provide tastings, so please do not expect a full meal at each location. Tastings vary in portion size, with most tastings served while seated inside the restaurant, and a couple are served in a more “on the go” casual manner to also allow time for the cultural and historic walking component of the tour.

Heck no! In addition to delicious food tastings, we also serve up a hearty helping of local McKinney commentary. You’ll learn interesting tidbits about the backgrounds and inspiration of the chefs/owners behind the eateries we’ll visit, as well as plenty of historical, cultural, and architectural information relevant to the historic downtown McKinney Square. There’s something for everyone on our tour.

Children 1o and older are welcome and will be served the same food tastings as adults. (We will provide a substitute for the one beer tasting.)

Please be mindful that the tour will last about 3 hours in length and will include walking and some standing as we explore the downtown McKinney Square. Parents, who know their children best, should assess the situation individually.

A list of all the current tasting locations can be found on the Tour page. While rare, tasting locations are subject to change.

Please be sure and let us know if you (or anyone in your group) has a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, diabetic, food allergy etc.)  when you purchase your tickets. Tours generally last 3 hours and guest can expect to be standing or walking for half of the time. We walk at a very relaxed pace and are seated at 5 of our 6 tasting locations. The total walking distance of the tour is just under 2 miles.

Bring your appetite! But seriously, having a camera/smartphone is a good idea so you can capture all your foodie and sightseeing pics, as well as wearing comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for Texas’ (typically warm) climate.  During the summer, we also recommend sunscreen and sunglasses. We’ll have water at every tasting stop but feel free to bring a bottle of water along for the walking periods.  If it looks like rain, we’ll provide plastic rain ponchos.

Water will be served with every tasting on the tour. Additionally, a beer tasting will be served at one of our tasting stops; a soft drink or iced tea will be provided for minors or anyone who would prefer this option.

Absolutely! Many of our tour guests are local yokels! While you may be familiar with the downtown Square, our walking route, and some of the tasting locations, the opportunity exists to taste new food items and to learn more about the establishments themselves. We’ll be sharing many interesting insights around the chefs/owners of these fine establishments and why they chose to call McKinney home. Besides, there’s always something fascinating and new to learn about McKinney’s rich history!

As a local, you’ll have the unique opportunity to re-visit many of the eateries we’ll visit, as well as others we recommend, all at your leisure. It’s also a great opportunity to show off our lovely historic downtown Square to visiting family and friends!

Yes, bathrooms are available during the tour at all food-tasting locations.

Parking is available at nearby parking lots and on the street.  Specific parking information will be provided on your ticket confirmation email which is sent after you purchase your ticket.  Downtown McKinney Map.

The Downtown Area Shuttle, or DASH for short, is an electric, six seat shuttle that scoots around istoric downtown McKinney taking shoppers, diners and visitors where they need to go. Best of all, riding with DASH is free! Just give him a wave or call 469-733-DASH and hop on!

The tours are held rain or shine because the food tastes great in any weather. Texas weather is usually good year round, but we suggest you check the weather conditions for the day of your tour and dress appropriately. We also provide rain ponchos in case of sudden weather changes or if you do not have your own umbrella.

We ask that you please wait to shop until after the tour ends so that we can stay on our food-tasting schedule and continue with the informative narrative and food tastings in a timely manner.

We offer one beer tasting featuring a local McKinney brewery during one of our tasting stops. (A soft drink or iced tea will be substituted for minors or anyone who would prefer a different beverage.)

We do not provide a waiting list.  Please call or email us (using the Contact form to the right), to let us know what date you are interested in if you do not see availability. We’ll try our best to accommodate you.

Gratuities are greatly appreciated if we exceed your expectations, though are not mandatory. The standard gratuity in the service industry is 15%-20%. We also love reviews on Trip Advisor, Yelp, or our Facebook page so others can learn about Food Walks of Texas. 🙂
