Brunch in McKinney: Best Lazy Morning Eateries
We don’t do ‘big crowds’ in McKinney — except when it comes to brunch. In fact, it’s not a bad idea to stake your claim (corner booth) as early as you can in this town. In some parts of Texas, brunch is an afterthought; here, it’s the main event. In McKinney, we consider ourselves Texans first, Americans second and brunchers third. With so many great options, the best brunch in McKinney shouldn’t be hard to find. In fact, you can’t go wrong when you head to any of these four spots…
Sugarbacon Proper Kitchen
The moment you walk up to Sugarbacon, you know that this isn’t your average brunch in McKinney. Located in a 1950s service station, the two gas pumps outside give away its former life almost immediately. This upscale restaurant has tons of down-home flair. You’ll find its titular dish on the top of its brunch menu: Sugarbacon smoked pork belly, ancho bbq sauce, atop house made bread-and-butter pickles and a crostini. We love to pair this with the Bee Sting cocktail – think margarita meets her sassy cousin the grapefruit, with a splash of honey and a little jalapeno floatie.
You’d better come here hungry because the Sugarbacon is just a starter!
Snug on the Square
If you’d rather cozy up with a book (or someone special) than pork belly, head to Snug on the Square.
Snug is a funky daytime coffeehouse featuring espresso drinks and classic cafe meals in a laid-back atmosphere. One step inside and you’ll immediately feel the cozy vibe. Does Snug make you feel like you’re in your favorite local coffee shop or your best friend’s breakfast nook? We can’t decide!
The menu here is full of breakfast sandwiches: English muffins hugging eggs with runny yolks, gooey cheese and fresh ingredients. They offer plenty of decadent options (think, waffles and baked goods) and healthy ones, like the ‘World’s Best Oatmeal.’
Rye
Rye invites you to Eat. Drink. And Visit. Because their menu is locally sourced and uber seasonal, that’s exactly what you’ll need to do to stay on top of all their creative small plates experiences and amazing craft cocktails curated from house infused syrups and fresh herbs . It’s not uncommon to return four weeks later to have another round of the amazing Japanese elotes and have it disappear from their menu. The talented and passionate chefs have moved on to another intriguing menu item that is just as fresh, unique, and crave-worthy. We’re obsessed with their French Toast which changes every month – I can’t imagine how it keeps getting more amazing, but it does!
Housed in the original home of former Texas governor James W. Throckmorton’s law office, Rye has a cozy intimate and personal feel, perfect for Sunday Brunch, a Saturday night dinner with your favorite neighbors, or late night cocktails and dessert after a show at MPAC.
The Donut Kitchen
Don’t be fooled by the Donut Kitchen’s simple big glass windows exterior. This family-owned donut-and-sandwich shop has tons of creative concoctions. You could just as easily get a Fruity Pebbles donut here as you would a croissant or a hearty turkey wrap. The donuts are all gourmet – some are really over the top decadent and others are lusciously filled with sweet cream or topped with creative frosting flavors – but all are dee-lish and made in-house! Just goes to show that it truly is what’s on the inside that counts.
